Could You Have Gluten Problems?

OffTheWheatenPathTT

I am a gluten free eater! I’m not following a fad, or trying to be on a hip new diet, eating gluten free is my way of life. If you’re like me you hear people say “I’m on a gluten free diet.” But I often wonder when they say it, if they truly understand what it means.

With the new year still fresh in our minds and making healthy choices to live a healthier life, it’s a good time to access ourselves and see where we might need to make some changes.

Over three years ago I was diagnosed with a severe case of non-celiac gluten sensitivity or gluten intolerance. It’s different from people who have celiac disease, but it has adverse effects on the body just the same.

Could you have a gluten allergy?

Celiac Disease & Non-Celiac Sensitivity:

According to celiac.org “Celiac disease is a serious autoimmune disease that occurs in genetically predisposed people where the ingestion of gluten leads to damage in the small intestine.” and “People with non-celiac wheat sensitivity experience symptoms similar to those of celiac disease, which resolve when gluten is removed from the diet. However, they do not test positive for celiac disease.”

Some of the symptoms people might display include:

Celiac Disease

  • Anemia
  • Anxiety
  • Bloating or Gas
  • Constipation
  • Depression
  • Diarrhea
  • Fatigue or Tiredness
  • Headaches or Migraines

Non-Celiac Sensitivity

  • Bloating or Gas,
  • Abdominal Pain
  • Headaches
  • Brain Fog
  • Joint Pain
  • Rash
  • Fatigue
  • Nausea

and much more! These are just as few symptoms visit Beyond Celiac to learn more.

I have seen people first hand with both celiac disease and gluten sensitivity and it is scary to think that something as simple as a bread crumb or a sprinkle of flour could do so much damage to the body. Whether your have celiac disease or gluten sensitivity, following a gluten free diet is something that you need to adhere to in order to have a healthy and full life.
