What is a Mimosa?

Mimosas are a cocktail that consists of equal parts Champagne and usually orange juice. They are served in champagne flutes and make a great cocktail for brunch. A simple cocktail, but delicious, we’ve spiced ours up, made some additions and created a real treat with this recipe.

Ingredients

The key ingredients for Mimosas are Champagne & Orange Juice.

Juice: When choosing an orange juice for this recipe, using a 100% natural version with no added sugar or freshly squeezed juice works best.

Champagne: We decided to change things up a bit and swapped the Champagne for Prosecco. This worked so well in the cocktail with its semi-dry flavor the Prosseco balanced our the sweetness of the orange Juice.

Choosing a dry type of Sparkling wine or Champagne here is something to note. A sweet wine will give the Mimosa a very sweet flavour, and that’s okay if you like things sweet, but I’m more or a semi-sweet flavor kind of person, so I prefer going with the classic dry type of champagne in this recipe.

Twist: For a little twist and burst of flavour, we decided to add some chopped berries and a dash of Angostura Bitters to our recipe right before serving. I’m from Trinidad, the home of Angostura Bitters, and whenever we drank orange juice my grandmother would put a dash of bitters in. So it only seemed fitting that I put a dash of bitters in my Mimosa (a small tribute to her.)

Variations

I love the classic Mimosa combination of Orange Juice and Champagne or Sparkling wine. But if you’re feeling adventurous, you can try some other citrus juice such as grapefruit, or even a mix of orange juice and pineapple juice, for a tropical treat!

Cookies and Cocktails are a really fun and tasty party idea! Trying paring this with some of our cookie recipes such as Coconut Oil Chocolate Chip Cookies or Chocolate Crinkle Cookies and have a party!
