Happy Friday my gluten free foodies. Things are still not 100 percent back to normal, but I think Fridays still warrant a little celebration as the work week ends and the weekend begins. And that is where these gluten free Paloma cocktails, (with a twist) make there appearance.

When it comes to having a cocktail as a gluten free eater, it means knowing what you can have that wont give you a reaction. A lot of alcohols such as beer, vodka and whiskey are made with gluten ingredients unless labeled otherwise. But there are some safe ones that you can consume without any trouble like tequila which is the key ingredient in these Paloma’s.

What is Tequilla?

Tequila is derived from the agave plant, specifically the blue agave  making it naturally gluten free and safe for celiacs and those suffering from gluten intolerance.

How to make Palomas?

Palomas, are a tequila based cocktail that is made by combining tequila along with lime juice, and grapefruit flavored soda.

How to make our Paloma Cocktails Twist?

When it came to creating our version of the Paloma, I was trying to find a way to make it lighter and refined sugar free. For that we used Grapefruit flavored soda, such as this one from Perrier, agave to sweeten and fresh lime juice, with a splash of bitters of course, because if you live in the land of bitters you might as well use it in everything. And the result was a delicious cocktail that was refined sugar free and just as tasty as the original.

Don’t want it sweetened? Simply leave out the agave and you’ve got a light refreshing treat on these hot Caribbean days that pairs well with our Citrus Sponge Cupcakes.

And if you don’t like tequila, try this close relative of the Paloma, the Greyhound which uses grapefruit juice, and either vodka or gin.
