One of my favourite kitchen appliances is my Instant Pot. Not only is it versatile, but it makes cooking certain recipes easy, like this Easy Gluten Free Instant Pot Marinara Sauce. It cuts down on the cooking time without impacting the flavour. So, when our garden started bearing pounds of tomatoes, using the instant pot to create this Easy Marinara Sauce was the perfect way to use up the excess tomatoes.
What is Marinara Sauce?
Marinara Sauce is a simple but delicious tomato-based sauce that is used in pasta, meat and seafood dishes. It consists of tomatoes, garlic, onions, herbs and spices.
How to Make Instant Pot Marinara Sauce?
What I love about this recipe is how simple and delicious it is, plus it only uses a handful of ingredients. Most of which you may already have in your pantry and fridge.
- Fresh tomatoes – We used our homegrown roma tomatoes, but you can use cherry or grape tomatoes as well.
- Onion – no need to be fancy, regular onions work great.
- Garlic
- Carrot
- Herbs and spices – We used Italian seasoning. But we’ve also used a combo of oregano and basil which works well too.
- Tomato Paste – we added a couple of tablespoons at the end to help thicken the sauce.
How to make the Marinara Sauce
Once you’ve gathered your ingredients. It’s time to make the sauce!
- Saute onion in olive oil until translucent.
- Add minced garlic and cook with onions for about a minute.
- Add diced carrots and tomatoes.
- Season with Italian seasoning, a little salt and pepper
- Pressure on high for 20 minutes, then let it naturally release for about 10 minutes.
- Blend using immersion blender.
- Season with salt, pepper, Italian seasoning and some xylitol.
- Add to sterilized mason jars, label and chill until ready to use!
To label these we used our Phomemo Thermal Labeler which gave a clean finished look! Click here to get yours!
This sauce is great with our homemade pasta, in lasagna, as a meat sauce and it makes for a great dipping sauce on the side of gluten free breadsticks.
