Penne Alla Vodka is a delicious dish that combines yummy pasta with a tomato-cream sauce. Our version takes all the flavor of the traditional dish, made it gluten-free in about ready in about 30 minutes.

What you need to make this Easy Gluten Free Penne Alla Vodka?

This gluten free Penne Alla Vodka uses ingredients that you probably already have in your pantry. You will need:
  • Gluten-free penne pasta 
  • Olive oil & Butter
  • Onion & garlic
  • Tomato Paste 
  • Vodka – I like to use a premium gluten free vodka such as Tito’s.
  • Heavy cream or Evaporated Milk – The first time I made this recipe I didn’t have Heavy cream so I used evaporated milk and it came it just as delish. 
  • Red pepper flakes (for a hint of heat)
  • Salt and pepper
  • Italian Seasoning (optional) – This isn’t a traditional ingredient, but I like the extra flavor it adds.
  • Fresh basil or parsley (for garnish)
  • Grated parmesan cheese (optional)

How to make this Easy Gluten Free Penne Alla Vodka?

To make this pasta you simply:
  • Cook the pasta according to package directions
  • Make the sauce by heating olive and butter in a pan. Saute the onion and garlic until fragrant, then deglaze with the vodka.
  • Next add the tomato paste, Italian seasoning and milk. Stir to combine and reduce heat to cook sauce until thickened.
  • Add cooked pasta, toss to coat. Then season with salt and pepper to taste. Finish with a sprinkle of fresh basil or parsley, grated parmesan cheese.
  • Serve and enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 8 oz Gluten Free Penne Pasta
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsps butter
  • ½ onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely minced
  • ¼ cup gluten free vodka
  • 5 tablespoons tomato paste
  • ¾ Heavy Cream or Evaporated Milk
  • 1 teaspoon Italian Seasoning
  • Salt and Pepper to Taste
  • Fresh Parsley or Basil to garnish
  • Freshly grated cheese to top
  • Red Pepper Flakes to garnish

Instructions

  1. Cook pasta according to package directions. Drain and reserve some of the pasta water.
  2. While pasta is cooking, in a skillet heat olive oil or butter or medium-high heat. Add onion. saute for a couple of minutes until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Next, stir in garlic, cook with onions for about 30 seconds. Add the vodka, let it bubble up, then add the tomato paste and cook with the vodka until a smooth sauce forms.
  4. Add the milk, then reduce the heat to medium-low. Add the Italian seasoning, stir with sauce and cook until thickened and heated through. Season with salt and pepper to taste, then add the pasta, stir to coat well. If the sauce is too thick, add some of the reserved pasta water to loosen it up.
  5. Once stirred, top with freshly grated basil or parsley, and some grated cheese to serve then enjoy!

Notes

  • If you don't have heavy cream, you can use evaportated milk, or even regular milk can work too.
  • The italian seasoning is optional, but it adds some great flavour. You can also add some red pepper flavkes for a little spice.
