Gluten Free Yogurt Bagels
If you are looking for a quick and easy gluten free bagel recipe, then this is the recipe for you! Just 5 ingredients, and it comes together quickly with no fancy tools or skills needed!
There is something so satisfying about having a fresh, chewy bagel for breakfast and these gluten free yogurt bagels are perfect to satisfy those bagel cravings. An easy homemade gluten free alternative to the traditional bagel, they require just a handful of ingredients and are perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a quick snack.
In Trinidad, one of the things I’ve always enjoyed for breakfast was a bagel with chicken salad, or an egg, bacon and cheese. Being gluten free, that isn’t an easy option in Trinidad especially when it comes to finding gluten free bagels. That’s where these gluten free yogurt bagels come in.
Super easy to make and satisfy all my bagel cravings, these are a weekly make in my kitchen and I enjoy them with chicken salad, as a breakfast sandwich and sometimes even toast them up to dip in my creamy pumpkin soup. Plus, they are made with Greek yogurt which adds a little extra protein.
Why You’ll Love These Gluten Free Yogurt Bagels
These gluten free yogurt bagels are a great option when you want something homemade without a complicated baking project.
The dough is simple to make and uses yogurt to help give the bagels a soft texture and a little extra protein. They are also wonderfully versatile. Keep them plain, sprinkle them with everything bagel seasoning, or add your favourite toppings before baking.
I also love that these bagels can be made ahead. Bake a batch, let them cool completely, and store them for easy breakfasts throughout the week. You can warm them in the toaster or air fryer when you’re ready to eat.
And if you’re someone who misses the convenience of grabbing a bagel for breakfast, making your own means you can control the ingredients while keeping them gluten free.
Ingredients to Make Gluten Free Yogurt Bagels
You only need a few basic ingredients to make these homemade bagels.
Gluten-free flour: I like to use my homemade blend for the recipe. Mostly because I always have it on hand. However any good quality gluten free baking flour works such as Bob’s red Mill 1:1 or King Arthur’s Measure for Measure GF Blend. Just remember that different GF flours absorb liquid differently and if the blend you need doesn’t have xanthan gum, add ½ tsp to the blend with the dry ingredients first.
Greek yogurt: This is one of the key ingredients in the recipe. Greek yogurt adds moisture and protein while helping create a soft, tender bagel. Ensure you use Greek yogurt or strain regular yogurt before making the bagels. Greek yogurt is thicker and has less liquid. If you use regular yogurt without straining, you will end up with a soggy, sticky mess.
Baking powder: Since these are quick bagels rather than yeast-based bagels, baking powder provides the lift needed to give them a light texture. Just make sure it is Gluten Free Baking Powder.
Salt: A little salt brings out the flavour of the other ingredients.
Egg: An egg helps bind the dough and gives the bagels a lovely golden finish when brushed over the top.
Optional toppings: This is where you can have fun! Try everything bagel seasoning, sesame seeds, poppy seeds, shredded cheese, or simply leave them plain.
What to Serve With These Bagels
There are so many ways to enjoy these gluten free yogurt bagels. For me chicken salad is at the top of the list or Turkey and cheese. But, for a classic breakfast, slice one in half, toast it, and spread it with cream cheese or add some egg, bacon and cheese, you can even use Cheese Paste a Trini favorite.
The possibilities are endless no matter what you choose!
I hope you enjoy this recipe. Whether you’re enjoying one for breakfast with your morning coffee or using it to make a quick sandwich, these gluten free yogurt bagels are an easy homemade staple worth adding to your gluten-free kitchen.
Happy Cooking!
