Nineveh 90

OffTheWheatenPathTT

To be honest, I was in two minds about writing this post, but I was inspired to write it, so here goes. It might not pertain to some of you, but it is a structure of spiritual growth that I think will benefit everyone, and if you are not religious, it will help give you a sense of focus.

I am a Catholic, I love my faith and there’s nothing that will change that. As the new year begins and I; along with most of the world, assess what the new year should bring. A group of friends and I have been drawn to something called Nineveh 90. It is a 90 day fast that helps you detach from material things and brings you closer to God based on scripture from the book of Nineveh.

If you went to your bible looking for this piece of scripture, you won’t find the Chapter 90 in the book of Nineveh. It is called Nineveh 90 because it is a 90 day fast based on the book of Nineveh in the Bible when a fast was proclaimed to save the city of Nineveh.

Why 90 days?

They say it takes 90 days to develop a habit and this fast helps us to break bad habits from refraining from them and develop new habits of prayer, exercise and healthy fasting. I will be giving my sweet tooth a break, creating recipes that are more suited to this new season of life and (if you know me) giving my vino a break.

It isn’t going to be easy, but nothing worth it ever is. Just like life, this takes time and effort. Sometimes you’ll see the fruit develop quickly, other times you see it develop as time goes by. But the main thing is to not give up. Whether you decide to do it for religious or personal reasons, the experience alone I think will be a benefit to you.

When do we begin?

From January 13th until Easter, it will be a rigorous 90 days. No splurging, eating better, more exercise, and less coffee. Social media will be limited and instead of scrolling through feeds, you might find me reading or going outdoors. For someone who’s work revolves around the computer, this will be a challenge, but It’s about detaching from the worldly things that have a hold on us and finding peace in God without them. It’s also about taking care of yourself, physically, mentally and spiritually.

I’ll still be posting recipes and sharing experiences, so lookout for updates on the journey and recipes and more that you can adapt to your lifestyle.
